Battling for more space for less money...... in the bedroom.....

Updated: Jun 10, 2023

More often than not - particularly in these Covid times - more space at home is a key concern for many homeowners - that’s for sure.

There are many ways to get more space - carefully planned renovation and re-arrangement of room design is a key way these days, as is a well planned home extension in step with your home’s developed layout.

less cramped

But aside from the above, another key approach is to make the space you have work and appear less cramped and restrictive by some careful layout, decor and furnishing choices within any room in order to create a real sense of more space and a lighter more enjoyable atmosphere.

guide and assist

This is a vital issue - and when we at Mint take on a renovation or extension plan for any home, we are pleased to guide and assist clients on their decor and furnishing layout alongside in order to help them to enjoy the best possible spacious feel and atmosphere that can be achieved within the newly extended or re-furbished area of their home.

Reference this 'chase' for more space, spotted online by our Editor recently from the always informed Real Homes team was some well-placed, sound and cunning guidance on making rooms appear the biggest they can for the best value budget….. and here are sone their pointers on bedrooms…..

The RH team pinpoint that a good number of us, being small space dwellers ourselves, have already to an extent learned a thing or two about 'expanding' space without having to knock down walls and the like. And, add the Real Homes pro’s, "actually, the easiest ways to make a space feel larger doesn't need cost a lot of money either….and some ‘moves’ can even involve no charge at all!

Say the Real Homes experts, ‘the whole space issue is mostly about re-imagining your space, stripping back on what you think you need, and thinking closely about your layout and what might be feasible and successful in terms of a little supportive hands-on considered DIY’. So there’s some food for thought as a starter…

Oh and then there is your storage….if you are in a battle to get best possible space you can from a challenging room, a key step to help is of course, as they say, to focus on and ‘up’ your storage game. Add the RH team ….."make sure you get that storage matter spot on, as for sure, the right moves on that really can make that tiny space-challenged bedroom feel a good deal like a spacious, airy, clutter-free, calming space...

more cramped

Continue the Real Homes space-savers - “If you want to make your small bedroom feel bigger on a budget, re-arranging your room is something you can do for free.” Another thing to take note of is that you might not have much space to play with , but must avoid a tendency to push all furniture against walls. If you do that, especially in small rooms, it actually makes the space you do have feel even more cramped.

First tip is to ensure you bed is not pushed against a wall - this creates a more cramp and claustrophobic feel about the room. The Real Homes experts have an answer - pull your bed into the centre of the main wall so there is a gap on either side. This space does need to be big enough for you to walk on either side, and, for sure, it will give the room more flow and breathing space, instantly making it feel bigger.

bedside table

And, also, by the way, don't worry if it means sacrificing a bedside table, an answer to that is to wall mount some floating shelves above or either side of the bed instead to save on space….
