Insulating ‘all areas’ at home is now surely more and more an essential…..

Updated: May 30, 2023

For sure, energy saving and energy efficiency within our homes -  whatever it’s type and size - and whether it is being extended and renovated or not - is without doubt more to the fore in day to day life nowadays than it has probably ever been! Right now, there is THE most keen and extensive focus on ALL energy efficiency and energy bill saving opportunities on all and sundry different areas of our homes.

We at Mint, of course, particularly appreciate and recognise essential many energy saving applications are very much ‘a must have’ in all areas of the varied types of home extension and renovation projects we undertake. This whole insulation energy saving issue been extensively highlighted online by many orgsnisations including recently by the always informative Real Homes team.

wider insulation measures

They highlighted that, in particular, wider energy saving insulation measures were needed not only in the more obvious areas of homes, such as attics, windows and doors - but, also, in other less usual areas, such as floors or walls. For sure, it seems right that these less usually targeted insulation ‘areas’ must be considered more readily going forward. They must be regarded as ‘must-do’ applications to further cushion the effects and indeed the looming pressures of energy saving .

extra benefit

The right quality floor insulation does, of course, mean households can achieve valuable extra benefit when it comes to energy saving. Floor insulation, as an additional application, will certainly aid the overall ‘warmth’ factor of most homes and thus improve all important energy efficiency and achieve vital, further, much welcome reductions in energy bills.

heat escape

It is true the floors in older homes often very much allow the escape of heat, and so effective floor insulation really can make a valuable difference, as well as reducing certain damp and residue issues, which can occur in some types of older properties at floor level.

include floors

A point, perhaps, to also make, is that it is certainly possible to preserve and maintain the visual effect of all floors even if you wish to undertake insulation. There is every reason to include floors in energy saving activities at home as something of a matter of course. This is being proven to be  a truly money- saving project worth completing in all kinds of homes and also, of course, when undertaking new home extensions and varied renovations.

‘the obvious’

The headline then - in these testing energy saving times  -  needs perhaps to be ‘don’t stop at the obvious’ when it comes to insulation - floors, as an example really do offer another opportunity to help homeowners achieve the very best energy saving potential they can.

Real Homes highlight how floor insulation, for both suspended timber and solid floors can be achieved. They also highlight how to draft proof a timber floor and also a concrete floor, in terms also of replacement as required.

top tips

They also highlight top insulation tips on underfloor heating issues, sealing skirting boards, ensuring air vents are not obstructed, impermeable layer topping of solid floors to ensure vital ‘breathing’…. and much more. consider carefully

You would surely have to say that when and where possible, the insulation of floors must be considered as part of an energy saving pls . It does surely mean a further step on the road to successful money saving on energy bills alongside those that can be achieved through the more obvious insulation of doors, windows and attic spaces

wall insulation too?

That’s not all either, yes, you can save energy with good floor insulation, you can also do so with wall insulation too. In the future, more and more advice and product development, it seems, will be developed and made available to further help us all fight the ongoing, intensifying, challenging energy saving battle we all face these days within our homes and all renovation and extension relating projects
