Key design and style ideas for your new home extension or renovation space…..

Updated: May 29, 2023

When considering and planning a home extension or renovation to achieve vital ‘added value’ to your home, - and so perhaps offer an improved option to make a later-on home move in the face of the tough, fast moving housing market - the decor for your new space - to an extent at least - is perhaps something of a lesser priority as the project gets underway.

But, as your new ‘space’ develops, one tends, after a relatively short time, to cast forward and begin considering the final look and finish details of your new room or rooms. To perhaps stimulate these thoughts a little …read on here and hopefully those creative designer minded ‘juices’ may become somewhat energetic and stimulated.

Online recently - from those expert home-style thinking and planning experts at Real Homes - was an impressive decor schedule of advice from the very well-informed writer Sophie Warren Smith. She expertly offers online certain well-considered thoughts and consideration on looks and trends that just might stimulate some vital guidance for you to act on when your project reaches that stage when decor decisions have to be made.

Sophie makes an initial telling starter point .. “Although trends come and go, there are, in essence, some 11 interior design styles that continue to be used, albeit with colour variations. These you can adapt to achieve seasonal shades by way of your choice of accessories.

made their mark

She goes on to make the following suggestion - that interior design styles that have historically made their mark are key elements to consider. She continues “The influences of the Victorian era, for example, through to the iconic shapes of Art Deco and Mid-Century Modern, are all good choices, and the details from each are diverse andreally have helped to shape interiors today”.

expert advice

Real Homes have apparently been in touch with certain home design experts they know for their advice on what classic interior design styles they love best ..and how you can make them work within your own home decor! As they say - “It might be that you only love one look and design style, and that’s absolutely fine – one is anyway enough throughout a home, unless you love an eclectic style and want to encompass a couple or more.”

style review

The styles in question can all be reviewed with some stylish imagery here:-

Lots to view and see and consider there, that’s for sure ….and very much worth a look… and there are some fab visuals to stimulate still more ideas for your new extension or renovation space too …it’s all right here ……..

great choices

Of course, a question that very much comes to mind for many of you perhaps is - “great choices, these are, yes ..but what are the most popular choices these days?” Real Homes’ view is that this is something almost impossible to answer. They suggest it's very much down a matter of personal choice, but the view of certain of their experts are highlighted to consider, here online too, giving much food for thought! These include not only guidance as to ‘timeless’ interiors and also key advice from Caroline Milns, head of interior design at Zulufish as to how to choose the right design style for your new extension or space!
