Recent ‘Autumn Statement’ highlights the advantages of extending or improving for now with no hom...

Updated: May 25, 2023

So ….after much speculation, the dreaded Autumn Statement arrived painting the picture as to how challenging the Winter ahead, and indeed the next year ….and beyond is set to be!

Chancellor Jeremy Hunt's announcements told us all how the tax burden in the UK will now be at its highest since the Second World War, backed by other unavoidable news -including even more soaring bills, higher unemployment and what looks like a full, ongoing recession, which will grip us all quite tightly in the immediate and for a fair time to come.

doom and gloom

There are all kinds of predictions of ‘doom and gloom’ for the economy, as this dreaded recession takes hold. These include dreadful economic shrinkage and predictions of around 55% of households being worse off as a result of these unavoidable, latest financial measures.

bleak outlook

Whatever one’s political stance, it seems it’s a bleak… bleak outlook. The key thing, very much seems to be, that there are, for sure, major worries reference living standards set to run right on throughout next year… and beyond.

negative effects

We at Mint realise that a raft of torrid, very negative effects are now very much with us, looking into next year, both for us as a business and indeed for most homeowners.

imponderables

We are, for sure, very much pondering what the effect will be reference those keen to - or needing to - make a home move during the year ahead. There are so many challenging ‘imponderables’ ahead reference mortgage rates, property market prices and the desperate cost of living situation for many.

cost of living pressures

The key question is ….how tough the next year or two ahead may turn out to be? It looks like it is tough enough that many homeowners will surely choose - or be forced to choose - due to the situation - to definitely only consider the extra pressure of a ‘full on’ home move unless absolutely essential.

challenging

As we have been highlighting for some time, the preference for so, so many families must now, even more so, avoid the challenging major expense of a home move - unless a downsize is needed.

extra space

Of course, home moves can often be about ‘extra needed’ space, but, as we at Mint have said often here - the right renovation, improvement or extension CAN help make a current home better for day to day living for now ….and thus allow the homeowner to pass on a ‘full on’ home move until financial circumstances become more favourable.

feasible option

We are saying right now that it very much looks like for many that it must be right ….more than ever  - to carefully consider whether the right home improvement for now is a more feasible option than battling to find and finance a new home move.

mayhem

This being so, the option to improve and ‘stay put’ is possibly more to the fore now with many families than before this latest round of financial ‘mayhem’.

week ago

A home improvement certainly seems more worth considering than even a week or so ago, due to the need to cushion and protect home budgets from the outlook highlighted in the very recent fateful Autumn statement.

best option

Consider - perhaps …just perhaps…how the right home improvement project just might be ‘best option’ in terms of helping you add potential sales value to your home for the future and enabling you and yours ‘ride out’ the tough years or so ahead following these latest torrid financial developments.
