Who would want to move home right now? Just the ‘practical process’ of doing so, costs thousands!!

We, at Mint have been highlighting here on this blog for some time now, how a home extension or renovation, for more space at home, could be said, at the moment, to be a better choice to make - in these tough, cost-of-living, financial times - as opposed to opting to go for a ‘full on’ home move?

tough option

We have highlighted here recently just why a home move is probably, for many, very much THE tough option at the moment … what with desperate mortgage costs, rising interest rates, unstable house prices, and looming financially tough times in so many numerous ‘areas’ of day-to-day life!!

All that being said, very recently, one of the Mint team spotted online, (from the always well-informed HomeOwners Alliance organisation) some key, well-considered information as to the full cost of merely engaging in the ‘actual process’ of moving home!

another tough ‘pay-out

The HOA information indicated that the cost of undertaking a home move - just going from one property to another - does indeed involve a bill of a good few thousands of pounds….Take note too, that such costs would, for many, be on top of ALL the other home moving financial ‘mountains’ that have to be climbed nowadays in order to achieve the right move…. to the right new home.

further financial pressures

For sure, it would seem that the basic process of undertaking ‘a home move’, will certainly pile on further financial pressures to many many homeowners, who are indeed committed to getting on the move to a different property right now.

total despair or calamity

It could be said, surely, that the mounting cost of dealing with merely with the actual, physical details of the ‘home moving process’ could be seen as something of a ‘straw’ that may well break the camel’s back - (the camel, of course, being the very much, put-upon homeowner, struggling with ‘all kinds of everything else’ to somehow get that home move done without too much despair or calamity.

budget properly

Explain the Home Alliance team - “When you’re planning to buy a home, it’s vital to know what the full cost of moving house will be… so that you can budget properly. From stamp duty tax, mortgage and legal fees right through to removals, we know everything you’ll need to pay for.

“it isn’t cheap”

The HOA add - “The cost of moving house isn’t cheap…..(that IS all too true!). In 2023, add the HOA, you can look at paying a bumpr £10,200plus in costs, a sum based on buying and selling an averagely priced house in the UK of some £292,000! These costs can be higher or lower, depending on where you live, the value of your property, ….and some of the various other involved choices you make”

be aware

For sure, all this, is more bad news - doubly tough to digest on top of all the other rising ‘mainline’ financial costs that home movers are facing today. As the HOA go on to say,……… you (that’s the poor, ‘put upon’ homeowner keen to make a move ) need to be very much aware of ALL the moving home cost issues that need to be met ‘head-on’ if a new home move IS to be undertaken, in the face of all the current serious financial upset! .

can you escape?

So, there you go ….there’s no escaping it… if you ARE determined to get on the move, then certainly, these extra thousands of pounds are needed for your actual home-move, along with all other bills involved in doing so …. the likes of mortgage fees, estate agents, legal fees etc.. etc.. etc ..

click the link?

For sure, havino read all this above info - what you should perhaps do is check out some of the key detailed information on offer here - Click the link and you can see how the HOA see things for real …..

and for sure!

an alternative?

So, there we are - take note perhaps. We at Mint will say it again then - Extend Now - Move Later AND add essential home price value too, for a hopefully easier ‘later on’ less financially-pressured home move . We believe, that this IS an approachable alternative - but it’s your call of course!

tough ..tough times!

What seems right is to consider ALL options, that’s for sure. It is ..tough…tough…tough… whatever you do … We feel, that for many homeowners, some choices, for sure, ARE certainly tougher to make and carry through, …than indeed certain others might be.

We just say…. pause… consider…. and perhaps wait a little,……..until all our day to day, financial lives, perhaps, become more feasible and manageable. Well, it’s an idea -
