Adding sales price value to your home with a new kitchen? Read on here to help make it happen …the very best YOU can!

As we have often said, here on this blog - when it comes to adding sales price value for a ‘later on’ home move ….a kitchen re-vamp or extension is for many THE number one choice to make in terms of a ‘tip-top’ money earning home project.

guidance and information

Spotted online recently was some useful, well-informed guidance and information on the whole ‘arena’ of effective kitchen renovation, all compliments of the always expert and considered HomeOwners Alliance…in this instance to the fore was their Director Editor, Angela Kerr.

where to start!

Highlights Angela -  “A good kitchen renovation can add thousands to the value of your home and make you feel like you’re living in an interior design magazine. But, with so much to consider, where do you start? ”

‘big-pull’

For many families of course , the kitchen is the ‘heart of the home’ and very much the room where all the family gets together. It is the ideal place to socialise… and it is VERY MUCH a big pull for home buyers too!

vital points

Adds Angela, “If you’re thinking of a kitchen renovation – whether to entice prospective buyers…. or to help you fall back in love with YOUR home, there are some vital points for consideration. ….

wish list…

Continues Angela…   “What nicer way to start a home improvement project than with a wish list?  This is a chance to pinpoint the style, colours and  kitchen design preferences  you want — whether that’s a minimal kitchen in glossy white or something more traditional with rustic stand-alone pieces.”

inspiration

This being the case, Angela goes on to highlight potential ways of getting your ‘creative juices’ going for inspiration and ideas for that stylish new kitchen that you have on your mind!

check ‘online’

She suggests a ‘cruise around’ online. Angela also points out that Pinterest and Houzz are great ‘online sites’ for best and favourite design inspiration. These sites, she says, can help inform you with project ideas and also offer you something tangible and available for you to keep referring back to.

‘steal’ inspiration

Also, notes Angela, “Instagram too has an endless array of people undergoing live kitchen refurbishments, from which you can ‘steal’ design, layout and product inspiration!” Also, a further point to note - namely, that according to the Houzz, team, ….  32% of homeowners get help from an architect for  kitchen design… and 45% consult a kitchen designer…. Now you know !

clarifying

Adds Angela further - in terms of clarifying the detail of your planned new kitchen -  “Establish your ideal features list too. Perhaps, you’re desperate for more storage, or more worktop space, an American style fridge, an island, integrated microwave or wine cooler ….etc …etc ? ….and by the way ..don’t forget  forget those light fixtures and the flooring, either!

shop’ around

Key to do, also, is to shop around carefully for your ideal kitchen. Angela agrees to such a move, and adds, “You’ll already be aware of the number of firms competing for your business. The best known are Wicks, B&Q, Homebase, Ikea, John Lewis, Howdens and Magnet.

websites too!

Also, she adds - “It’s worth looking at their websites, to find the kitchen range you like best, also, get inspiration and work out some costs. Bespoke kitchen makers are also a popular option.”

a kitchen planning service?

Also, take note re the key matter of planning that all important new kitchen. Explains Angela, “If you go into store, most retailers will plan your kitchen for you using one of the ranges they offer. Most companies do this free of charge. Others do charge a fee that is redeemable… if you decide to buy the kitchen from them”..

get those measurements!

A further thoughts adds Angela - Speed up the process by taking your kitchen measurements with you to see firms….. so they can start drawing up your kitchen design… then and there.
